The ultimate job interview
Once you’ve successfully completed your training, you will be eligible to apply for a permanent role at the Hawthorn Football Club. At least two permanent roles will be available per cohort, as well as the opportunities to apply for casual work at the club once you’ve completed your 100 hours of work integrated learning.
Pathways to university
Successful completion will enable you to apply for degree courses in a number of areas including sports science, sports management and human movement.

In partnership with Box Hill Institute, Hawthorn College of Sport will help you take your learning from the classroom to the field.
The dual diploma program of the Diploma of Sport (SIS50321) and the Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420) combines theoretical learning with a range of work-integrated training opportunities with Hawthorn Football Club.

What activities will I be participating in as part of the program?
Practical training forms the core of this program. You will take part in 100 hours of work-integrated learning with Hawthorn Football Club. You will gain experience across several of the Club’s departments, including football operations, membership operations, community engagement, fan engagement, events, clinics, marketing and media.
Hawthorn Football Club staff, coaches and players will periodically deliver guest presentations to support your learning.

Are there entry requirements?
There are some entry requirements you need to meet to be eligible for this program.
- You must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent Australian resident or an eligible Visa holder.
- You must have completed Australian Year 12 (or international equivalent). No ATAR required.
As part of the application process, you will undertake a pre-training review in the form of a self-assessment in language, literacy and numeracy. This review will help determine your suitability for the course and ways we can support your learning.
Other things you will need to complete this course:
- Access to a laptop that you can bring to all classes.
- Access to the internet outside of class hours to undertake online course work.

What will my weekly schedule look like?
This course offers a blended delivery mode across three days per week over 12 months, comprised of 2 days of face-to-face training sessions each week in addition to one day of online course work.
Part of your training will take place at Hawthorn Football Club headquarters at Waverley Park and at the Melbourne Cricket Grounds (MCG).
